Romans- Part 17

In Romans 3:21-26 Paul make remarkable statements regarding how a person can become righteous. He does so focusing on four key words: justified, redemption, propitiation, and remission. Our righteousness depends not on our performance, but on what God has accomplished through Jesus Christ.

Romans- Part 16

In Romans 3:16-18 we finish looking at Paul's description of our sinful nature. Destruction and misery are its fruit, and lack of peace and Godly fear are its characteristics. This puts every man in the same position- condemned by the law.

Romans- Part 15

When dealing with this matter of man's sin nature, Paul turns to the tongue as a very specific proof of our natural bend toward sin. He does not stop here, however. The tendency of human beings toward violence is also a prime evidence of our sinful nature.

Romans- Part 14

So, what is man's actual condition before God? Are any of us better off than any others? Paul, in Romans 3:9 proclaims the fact that all men are equally under sin. His point is not to depress us, but to lay the foundation that will make the gospel message effective in our lives.

Romans- Part 13

Is there any advantage to being a Jew? If unbelief excludes Jews from their covenant promises, does that make God a liar? If even man's unbelief and sin eventually display God's faithfulness is God not wrong for judging men for things that ultimately produce some good? Paul tackles these questions in Rom. 3:1-8.

Romans- Part 12

In Romans 2:17-29 Paul addresses the Jewish moralist. He had the right name, right knowledge, and right practices, but not the right heart. Many of the same advantages enjoyed by the Jewish moralist are also enjoyed by Americans and others in "Christian" nations. We can learn some valuable truths from this text.

Romans- Part 11

In Romans chapter 2 Paul deals with the moralistic man. Verses 11-15 speak to us about the impartiality of God's judgement. In this passage we deal with issues such as how God will judge those who never heard the gospel and the moral standard that is in man "by nature." We close with some final considerations regarding the secrets of men and the day of judgment.

Romans- Part 10

Romans 1 ends with a horrifying description of the evil man is capable of when he rejects God. But, we see plenty of decent, respectable people in the world all around us. In Romans 2:1-16 Paul discusses the case of the moralistic man.

Romans- Part 9

Romans 1:24, 26, and 28 tell us what God gives man over to because of man's unrighteousness. Man has chosen his way, so God will sentence him to his sinful choice. The description of man in this state is terrible, and all too familiar for the day and age in which we live.
