Romans- Part 24

In Romans 5:1-5 we discover five great benefits of our justification. Having covered the first three last week we turn our attention to the last two. As believers we have a completely different outlook on suffering, plus the Holy Spirit sheds abroad the love of God in our hearts. This love is so remarkable because it was offered to us when we were without strength, ungodly, sinners, and God's enemies.

Romans- Part 23

In Romans 5 Paul turns his attention to 5 great results and benefits of our justification. The first three are peace with God, access to grace, and hope of the glory of God. These benefits are very real and very valuable.

Romans- Part 22

The great proof that righteousness is by faith and not by works can be seen in the life of Abraham. Abraham and Sarah were given a son when it was impossible for them to have children. God's promise to them was received by faith, not by works. We often think that Abraham's faith wavered because of what he did with Hagar, but God sees things differently!

Romans- Part 21

In Romans 4:13-16 the apostle Paul continues to use the life of Abraham to declare the fact that our righteousness comes to us by faith, not by the law. He demonstrates this by looking into God's promise to Abraham and to his seed. What a glorious promise it is!

Romans- Part 20

Circumcision was a sign and a seal under the old covenant. New covenant believers have important rites also. Holy communion and water baptism are not only remembrances to be performed, but are also means of grace for the believer.

Romans- Part 18

We are justified, made righteous before God, not by works of the Law, but by faith. This fact removes from us any grounds for boasting. This fact has great significance for us in a day of athletic trash talking and political talk radio. Christians are to be a different breed.

Romans- Part 19

The matter of the believer's relationship to the Law is a complicated one. It cannot justify him, but it is not made void through faith either. The life of Abraham illustrates vividly the fact that men are made righteous by faith, not by works of the Law.

Romans- Part 17

In Romans 3:21-26 Paul make remarkable statements regarding how a person can become righteous. He does so focusing on four key words: justified, redemption, propitiation, and remission. Our righteousness depends not on our performance, but on what God has accomplished through Jesus Christ.

Romans- Part 16

In Romans 3:16-18 we finish looking at Paul's description of our sinful nature. Destruction and misery are its fruit, and lack of peace and Godly fear are its characteristics. This puts every man in the same position- condemned by the law.

Romans- Part 15

When dealing with this matter of man's sin nature, Paul turns to the tongue as a very specific proof of our natural bend toward sin. He does not stop here, however. The tendency of human beings toward violence is also a prime evidence of our sinful nature.
