Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day. In this message we consider the historical role of women in society and the church, the women's rights movement, and women's relationships. May the Church rise up to honor women in the sight of God!

Examples, Enemies, and Eternity

Philippians 3:17-21 appears to be a pretty straightforward, bread and butter passage. However, as is so often the case, a more careful inspection uncovers a passage that probes deeply into our hearts.

Forgetting the Past

Paul lived humbly in the present, looking to the future, while forgetting the past. Whether it was his past hurts, sins, or victories, Paul could not afford to dwell in the past. Neither can we.

The Fellowship of Suffering

We cannot know the power of Christ's resurrection life if we do not fellowship with Him in our sufferings. There are at least 4 ways that we can fellowship with Christ in suffering, and it is our response to suffering that determines the level of our fellowship with Christ.

Two Resurrections

In Philippians 3:10 and 11 the apostle Paul mentions two resurrections. The first is Jesus' bodily resurrection, which provided for us a new spiritual life. The second is our own bodily resurrection, and the reality of this resurrection is of utmost importance.

The keynote of the book of Philippians can be identified with one word- rejoice! This word is more densely packed into this book than in any other book of the Bible. It's no wonder the Philippian church was such a healthy congregation.

Distractions from Christ

Paul had strong words for the Judaizers of his day. They sought to distract people from Christ by inserting legal requirements to their faith. Healthy faith, however, involves worship in the Spirit, rejoicing in Christ Jesus, and placing no confidence in the flesh.

Two Good Men

Philippians 2:19-30 focuses on two good men- Timothy and Epaphroditus. From Paul's words about these men we learn much about our relationships, about Christian character, and about having hearts that are oriented toward the Lord.

Jesus' Example

In Philippians 2:5-11 we find Jesus' example of humility and death on the cross. We find this same example used in I Peter 2:13-:3:12 and Ephesians 5:22-25. Jesus' example teaches us how we are to relate to each other.

Keep it Together!

Unity is important to health. A physical body cannot be healthy when it is at war with itself. Neither can a marriage, a family, or a church family. In Phil. 2:1-4 the apostle Paul appeals to the Philippians to guard and promote their unity.
