Samson and Sovereignty

How can we explain the fact that Samson wanted to marry a Philistine woman, not one of God's people, and that this decision was "of God"? The question of man's free will and God's sovereignty is a mystery about which there are some things we can know.

A Star Is Born

Samson's birth was announced by an angel; maybe even a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ. There is much we can learn from the events recorded in Judges 13. From the Nazirite vow, to marriage, to worship, to our view of God, to the moving of the Holy Spirit, this chapter challenges us deeply.

Suicide- Heaven or Hell

So, we come to the big question: Can a person who commits suicide still go to Heaven? On one hand, it is a difficult question because we can't see a person's heart. On the other hand, it is an easy question answered simply by salvation by grace through faith. Thank God, He is mighty to save!

Helps for a Strong Spirit

Christians must be a people devoted to God's Word. We must know our God, not just know about Him. We must also know the power of the Jesus' cross. Thank God, He has provided sufficiently for us to overcome the despair that can lead to suicide.

A Different Kind of Death

Suicide is a physical death brought upon oneself, but there are deaths that are not physical. Relationships can be killed, reputations can be killed, and so can the hearts of people. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and which one our words produce is a great responsibility that each of us carries.

Suicides and Death Wishes

There are 6 men in the Bible who committed suicide, excluding Samson. Several others wished they had never been born or expressed a desire to die. We can learn from their example. A strong spirit can bear great suffering, but a wounded spirit leads to despair.

An Unusual Vision

In 1 Kings 22, the prophet Micaiah relates a rather strange vision he saw. This story offers us some great truths we can anchor our lives with as we begin a new year. There may be much we don't understand, but God is good, and He is in control.

Grace Came Through Christ

In John 1:17 grace is contrasted with the Law, the word "given" is contrasted with "came," and Jesus is contrasted with Moses. Through these 3 great contrasts we can better understand the New Covenant, our Christian experience, and the Person of Christ. We must not settle for a mere Christian lifestyle.
