Asa's Perfection

Asa was one of Judah's good kings. He had some wonderful successes, but also some significant defeats. God told Asa that He was looking for a man whose heart was perfect toward Him so He could display His power toward him. Was Asa such a man? Are we such people?

Young Solomon

As a young man, Solomon loved the Lord and walked in the statutes of his father David. When asked of God what he wanted, Solomon's humble request was for wisdom. God granted his request, and also gave him that for which he had not asked. He started so well, but it is better to end well than to begin well.

John's Doubts

In Matthew 2 we read about John's time in prison when doubts filled his mind regarding who Jesus was. How did Jesus respond to John's doubts? Their interaction is a great encouragement to us today in times when our faith is tried.

Hot, Cold, or Lukewarm?

What does it mean to be lukewarm? The common view is that "hot"refers to believers, "cold" to unbelievers, and "lukewarm" to carnal believers. There is another view, however, that makes much more sense. We must ask God to deliver us from lukewarmness. There is hope!

Whose Church?

The Laodicean church is the only one of the seven churches to receive no praise. Prominent in this letter, as in four of the other letters, is a call to repentance. They were lukewarm, and the issue seems to have been a failure to see Christ as Lord.

No Rebuke

Revelation is mostly a prophetic book. From it we are encouraged by the sovereignty of God in our world. We live in the time when the letters to the seven churches apply so clearly. Through the letter to Philadelphia we focus on the importance of brotherly love, little thing, and perseverance.

A Name Without Life

It is possible to be truly saved, yet to lack the vitality of spiritual life we once had. God's cure, as spoken to the church of Sardis is to remember, to watch, and to rediscover the full working of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

A Woman's Seasons

Each season of life has its privileges and its responsibilities; its advantages and its disadvantages. In this teaching we consider three Scriptures for the three stages of the feminine life: pre-motherhood, motherhood, and grandmotherhood.
