Lois and Eunice

Timothy's mother and grandmother had a great influence on his faith. His family situation may have been less than ideal, but God knows how to work in and overcome our circumstances. Moms, you have an important job, but in the end it is God Who must work in your children's lives.

The Fight, then the Crown

In II Timothy 4:6-8 Paul described the described himself as a drink offering. He went on to say that the fight, the race, the guarding of the faith that had made up his life was complete. What awaited him was the crown of righteousness. This "crown" awaits us as well.

But Thou

In II Timothy 4:3,4 Paul tells Timothy some of what he may have to face in his ministry. There will come times when people will not want sound doctrine. In verse 5, however, Paul tells Timothy that whatever happens with others he must be faithful. His instructions to Timothy apply to us today.

All Scripture

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. We typically view these words as if they spoke of the Bible as a toolbox, but what about the view that the Bible is first and foremost a mirror?

The Devil's Snare

II Timothy 2:24-26 is a sobering passage of Scripture. In it we discover the character and methodology of the Lord's servant, the reality of our spiritual enemy, the condition of being ensnared, and the possibility of being delivered.

Resurrection and the Gospel

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a key component of the gospel message. In II Timothy 1:8-10 we find that this gospel provides us with a reason to live, and even to suffer, it offers to us the satisfaction of our deepest human needs, and it promises a future free from death and decay. The gospel, and particularly the resurrection, are great reasons to rejoice!

A Good Soldier

In II Tim. 2 Paul urged Timothy to endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. He then used three analogies in order to illustrate the Christian life. The soldier, the athlete, and the farmer all have much to teach us as followers of Christ.

Flee, Follow, Fight

The Christian life is both a life of rest and a life of maximum effort, but they must be kept in their proper order and proportions for us to stay spiritually healthy. Part of our Christian effort is found in that sanctification does not take place on accident. There are things we must flee, follow after, and fight against.

Marriage and Meat

In I Timothy 4:1-5 we read a prophecy about what will happen in "the latter days." This prophecy centers around false teaching and deception regarding marriage and food. This deception will be the work of evil spirits using the mouths of false teachers. A careful examination of this text can reveal numerous lessons.
